The new Particle Measuring Systems regional facility in Colorado included laboratories, office space, and a critical ultra-pure water system. As part of this tenant improvement project, Hunt Electric provided design-assist services and comprehensive electrical solutions to support the facility’s specialized operations.
Our scope included the installation of electrical systems, fire alarm, DAS, and an outdoor diesel generator for backup power. We also designed and installed a complete lighting system with integrated controls, a 3000-amp switchgear, and new feeders to connect to the existing service. Careful coordination of shutdowns and power supply with adjacent tenants ensured uninterrupted service throughout the construction.
One of the project’s key challenges was ensuring reliable power for the ultra-pure water system. Hunt Electric collaborated early with the engineering team to assist in the switchboard design and expedite the procurement to meet a tight energization schedule. To mitigate the risk of power interruptions, our team installed a temporary generator for the neighboring tenant, conducted full testing of both existing and new generations, and installed a 400kQ backup generator and a 160kW UPS battery system to ensure continuous operation of the water system.
Our innovative use of BIM coordination allowed us to identify and resolve potential clashes with other trades early in the process, enabling us to execute high-quality wiring, optimize ductwork installation, and improve coordination and space utilization. The project also included the installation of 33 runs of dual-channel steel wire mold, approximately 600 feet, with exposed conduit requiring a high level or precision and craftsmanship.
